HOW TO VOLUNTEER
Noah's Friends Animal Sanctuary always needs volunteers in a variety of areas. Please take a moment and read about our programs, then contact us to help us find where we can best put your talents and gifts of time to work! Thanks for your interest in helping us!
Noah's offers a variety of hands on activities for volunteers! These responsibilities are vital to the mental, social and physical well being of our animals and help them to stay ready for that anticipated forever home. Otherwise animals simply become institutionalized like confined humans, this soon takes a toll on their ability to find a good home. Take a look at these opportunities to help them:
Socialization: walking/exercising, petting, leash training, playing and all the usual things a human would do with a pet to help it prepare for home life with a new owner versus kennel life.
General grooming and care: bathing, brushing, pest control application.
Handling during adoption events: We always need experienced animal people to walk/watch and otherwise be responsible for a single dog/cat during events where our animals are being exposed for hopeful adoptions and have been temporarily removed from the Sanctuary.
Fostering: most rescue organizations are desperate for foster care! Ours is no exception. We often find circumstances where an animal needs foster care for short term (overnight or 1-3 days) and long term care (1-3 months or longer). If you feel you can provide a safe and nurturing foster environment for any length of time, WE NEED YOU!
Transporting Animals and Supplies
Noah's needs reliable and licensed/insured drivers to transport animals and supplies (most often by appointment but not always). Take a look at these opportunities to volunteer:
New Homes out of the Area: Do you like to travel? You might like to transport animals to new homes that are out of the area. Most of the time it's just one or two animals at a time. Sometimes we make the best of a transport by sending as many animals as we can, including those from surrounding rescues that may need a ride to the same location, like "carpooling". Usually there are one or two meeting spots that everyone knows about and the animals will be left with the representatives that have come to get their respective hitch hiker!. Occassionally animals hitch hike back here... most of us refer to this as the rescue railroad.
Supplies: Can you load and/or transport monthly pet food donations, or possibly other materials and supplies that have been donated or purchased?
Veterinary appointments: Sometimes we simply need for someone to go into the vets office and pick up and transport an animal that needs to come back to the shelter and vice versa. If you can't foster a medically needy animal, just heping a foster home to get their animals back and forth to vet care or shelter is invaluable!
Fundraising, Event Organization & Outreach
Every nonprofit Organization needs funding. To stay funded volunteers spend a great deal of time planning and holding fundraisers. Noah's needs you if you have any skills or talents for organizing, planning and all other aspects of fundraising. Here are some things you might think about:
Time & Energy: It may sound odd to give this topic a section of it's own, however the people that volunteer for nonprofit organizations that have no particular area of interest and have willing hands are possibly the most important part of a nonprofit! We need and appreciate you no matter what your talent or skill or lack there of. If you have free time and a desire to help, we need YOU! Contact us!
Event Planning/Catering: Do you like to give parties? You might like to help organize fundraising events. You don't need much, just good organization skills and lots of creative energy!
Experience with grant writing and nonprofit investment planning: Have you written successful grants in the past? We need your advice and/or talents. If you have experience with good investment planning and would like to share this information in order to help us plan for our future please contact us.
Yard Sales: most everyone has helped with some aspect of yard saling at some point in their life. If you like to sift through items and price things or if you can help pick up items and store them, or your just good at talking people into buying things, we would like you to sign up for our yard sale fundraisers.
Marketing and Public relations: Do you have marketing and PR experience that you would like to put to good use. We always need people to help design and plan fundraising media. Please contact us if you would like to be a part of our media and outreach program!
Office & Computer Stuff
Occassionally we have a need for someone to handle the phones, do computer/program applications, or do paper work, including mailings and Thank you notes etc... if this sounds fun for you then contact us and we may have some things for you to stay busy with!
Grounds Keep and Labor
If you don't mind getting dirty and the valley heat and winter months don't bother you much, you may want to help us with routine maintenance! It is an enormous task to maintain a shelter! Take a look at some of the things we have to do for up to 70 animals daily whether we have help or not! (usually the same one or two people are doing this alone! We really need help with this!)
-feeding and watering
-kennel cleaning
-play/exercise yard up keep
-washing and sanitizing food and water dishes
-washing and sanitizing bedding & toys
-changing bedding
-chain link and kennel repair
-landscape maintenance
-General repairs and grounds keep
